This quotation is a meditation subject in and of itself. As I understand the matter, there can be mindfulness with or without thinking; the essential factor is awareness. But one can be lost in thought without being aware, without being mindful. Awareness itself should not be tethered to thought; and thought without the perspective of awareness tends to get entangled in delusional thinking.
